Barn Conversion — Delaware, OH
Delaware Timber Frame
German Bank Barn
This beautiful barn home conversion features a sawn oak timber frame from a German heritage bank barn. We dismantled, transported and modified the structure to accommodate the family's needs.
Barn History
The barn dates to the early 20th century and is constructed entirely from sawn timbers. Earlier barns of the 1870s through the early 1900s used a mix of sawn and hand-hewn materials, depending on the sawmill technology available at the time.
Project Details
Major modifications included replacing the floor structure while salvaging original joinery for new flooring. Additions included a loft, a back porch with original slate roofing, and a stone fireplace.
Exterior finishes include Hardy board siding, a standing seam metal roof, and insulated 2×6 walls.
